Double tragedy in Manzanilla

Geeta Sooknanan, 21, succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident, at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex around 3 am yesterday, five hours after the accident.

The two drivers were discharged yesterday while a third victim is warded in a stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital.

According to a police report, at about 10.45 pm Riad Rahaman, 32, of La Romain, was driving his Land Rover jeep south along the Manzanilla Main Road when he lost control of the vehicle.

The jeep crashed into a van driven by Navin Hosein, 48, of Carapichaima. Sookanan was seated in the front seat of the van while Francis Baptiste, 31, was in the back seat.

An EHS ambulance rushed all four of them to hospital where they were treated and warded, but Sookanan died a few hours later.

In another incident, sea bathers got the shock of their lives after the body of a missing fisherman, Gregory Colly-more, 25, was spotted floating in the water around midday yesterday.

A police report stated bathers saw the body floating a half mile from the shore. Manzanilla police were contacted and the officers retrieved the body, that was badly decomposed Collimore, 25, of Manzanilla North Road went on a fishing trip last Wednesday and never returned home. Relatives made a report to the police and Coast Guard but neither he nor his pirogue was found. A district medical officer viewed the body and ordered its removal to the Forensic Sciences Centre where an autopsy is expected to be performed tomorrow.
