Joseph: Good conquers evil

He said the message was that “good will always conquer evil” and that Jesus Christ will always go ahead of them in their lives.

His message followed the traditional lighting of the great fire out of flint and steel next to the church — as the lights in the church were extinguished and then rekindled with the lighting of the huge Easter candle or Paschal. The entire episode was significant of the overcoming of light over darkness and good being triumphant over evil.

And as the congregation celebrated Easter, the joy of winning two new ‘souls’ spread through the church as two young parishioners (names given as Catherine and Rebecca) made the transition of their lives in Baptism. Clad in the traditional brown gown which in itself is significant of the darkness of the world, the two young women took a dip in the water of life. They then donned white clothing as an indication of their newfound purity and the existence of light in their lives.

There was also the traditional singing and playing of different instruments in song as well as the excitement of the resurrection of Jesus Christ which was officially observed yesterday among the congregation. Joseph urged the gathering to pattern their lives in a way that Jesus Christ would want of them. Six scripture readings by members of the church also served to spread the message of God’s goodness and the preparation of a good place for all who follow his commands.
