Relative held in cricket bat killing

According to reports, Balchan Sookram was liming with his cousins in Longdenville at 11 pm, when he got into an argument with a relative. Sookram was severely beaten about the body with a cricket bat. He was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The suspect who lived in the same house with Sookram has been held in connection with the matter.

When Newsday visited Sookram’s house, a relative described the suspect and Sookram as “two good men” and said that it was just a “sad story.”

“He lived his own life, and his two children will be cared for by the family,” another relative said.

Sookram will be buried according to Hindu rites.

The Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) is investigating the matter.
