Autopsy on murder victim today

Following the autopsy, homicide detectives are expected to take the results and other findings to the Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson for instructions on whether or not a suspect will be charged with the murder of Merez.

The 19-year-old suspect who is a relative of 26-year-old Merez was detained by police shortly after the incident at The Ranch Bar at Icacos Main Road, Icacos. Several witnesses to the incident told police that Merez, a caretaker at the Cedros District Health Centre, had engaged in a fight with the suspect outside the bar and Merez began pelting bottles at the suspect.

Witnesses said the suspect ran into his home located nearby and Merez followed. Police said Merez was stabbed in the left side of his chest while standing on the front steps of the suspect’s house. Witnesses rushed Merez to the Point Fortin Area hospital for treatment but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
