Cops want ID of accident victim

Yesterday was the third day that the body of the man, who appeared to be in his 50’s, remained at the San Fernando mortuary without it being identified.

Police said the deceased wore a black pants and jersey and was barefooted when he was killed. There were no forms of identification in his pockets, police said.

Witnesses to the fatal accident told police that the deceased was often seen walking along the Southern Main Road between Claxton Bay and Marabella.

The accident occurred on Friday at about 7.30 pm when a 50-year-old mechanic of St John’s Road, Claxton Bay, was driving his gray Mazda 323 in a northerly direction along the Southern Main Road.

The driver told police that upon reaching Tropical Plaza the unidentified man ran across the road suddenly and was struck. Witnesses told police the deceased was pitched into the air and landed on the windscreen of the car, then fell onto the roadway.

Police took a statement from the driver and released him pending further inquiries into the accident.

Cpl Alimudeen Mohammed of the Marabella Police Station is continuing investigations.
