Greene is Most Outstanding International rider
Following his victories in the 3,000 metres and 4,000 metres events on the opening two days, Greene won the feature 20,000 metres event at the meeting’s finale on Sunday night.
He finished ahead of Steen Rose of the United States and Mark Osbourne of Canada.
The powerful Greene who won the Most Outstanding Local Cyclists accolade last year, also claimed the 1000 and 2000 metres sprints, as well as the second place finish in the 1500 metres race, much to the delight of the appreciative crowd.
In the 1000 metres, Greene fended off the challenge of Guyana’s Warren McKay with Jason Perryman of neighbouring Barbados finishing third. And in the 2,000 metre race, Simeon Commissiong and Ryan Neilman followed Greene home in another keenly contested race. Greene also earned the runner-up spot in the 1,500 metres sprint behind Jason Forde of Barbados and ahead of Commissiong. Ex-Trinidad and Tobago champion cyclist Gene Samuel was named the Most Outstanding Category 1 and 2 rider.
Only a day ago, Samuel disposed of a large field to win the feature 10,000 metres race at the same venue, and on Sunday last he followed that up with victories and a second place finish in the Devil Takes the Hindmost for Category 1&2 cyclists.
Samuel also spearheaded North, which included Adam Alexander and Ako Kellar to victory over a South team. The South team also fielded a number of top cyclists, among them talented Haseem McLean, Dariel Pereira and Deon Codrington.
In the Devil Takes the Hindmost event, Samuel finished behind Stephen Mangroo, but well ahead of third placed Quincy Jones.
Road race king Emile Abraham also made his mark with a win in the 3,000 metres event for international cyclists. Abraham romped home ahead of Greene to complete a one-two finish for Trinidad and Tobago. American Rose got the bronze.
Azikwe Kellar not surprisingly won the Toyota Trinidad and Tobago sponsored Match sprint final ahead of his sibbling Ako and McLean of South Claine. Marlon Williams of Guyana won the 5,000 metres Life Style Motors sponsored race and Bajan Perryman got the silver and Abraham bronze.
