Partap’s office broken into
According to a police report, the office was closed around 4.30 pm on Tuesday and secured by a worker.
But yesterday morning when office assistants Yvette Richards and Khemraj Singh showed up for work they found the door to the office situated at the corner of Eastern Main Road and Guaico Tamana Road, broken.
Upon checking they discovered office equipment, a quantity of food items and donated clothing which were intended to make up the bulk of food hampers for distribution to the poor and needy, missing.
Partap told Newsday he was “disturbed and disappointed” by the act of vandalism. “This is yet another manifestation of the runaway crime problem facing this nation and which the ruling political party seems clueless in resolving,” Partap said.
Partap said that although his main office is in Biche, he has been operating at the sub-office since 1995. He added that it was the first time it had been vandalised.
The office was used for storing all clothing donated by well-wishers from where they are distributed to the needy. Partap revealed that the vandalism meant that the constituency executive will not be able to provide food hampers to 75 needy persons. Cpl Gopaul of the Sangre Grande Police Station is investigating.
