Police believed jealousy drove a woman to stab a man with a broken beer bottle in Valencia on Wednesday night.
The man, Kireon Williams, did not survive the wound to the left side of his neck, he died while he was being taken to the Sangre Grande District Hospital.
The woman, 20, whom police report argued with Williams about another woman he was seeing before the stabbing, is in custody for questioning.
This is the second murder recorded in east Trinidad in which a woman killed a man. Last Saturday, Simeon George suffered a similar fate when he was stabbed by a 30-year-old woman.
Police state that Williams, 20, of Quarry Road Valencia, was liming with friends at a shop, at about 7.30 pm, when he and the woman got into a heated argument.
Williams left and went to his home, had something to drink and told his mother, Anesha Garib, that he was returning to the lime.
She warned him, not to get into trouble. As Williams neared Quarry Junction, the woman, who was drinking a beer, approached him. She broke the bottle and stabbed him in his neck, police report.
As his friends ran to help him, Williams fell to the ground unconscious.
A call for an EHS ambulance was made and Williams was rushed to the Sangre Grande hospital but doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
Garib said her son and the woman began a friendship about three years ago, but they quarrelled frequently. She added that the woman went to the United States for four months and her son struck up a relationship with another woman.
When the suspect learnt of this on her return to Trinidad she kept hounding him, “It was quarrels day and night,” said Garib.
Williams, a lover of sports, coordinated the football league in Valencia and was also a skilled basketball player.
Post-mortem results revealed he died from vascular injuries and haemorrhaging.
