Zimbabwe trounce Bermuda
Both teams, who defeated Canada in the earlier matches, will face off from 9.30 am tomorrow to decide the winner, with Zimbabwe highly fancied to prevail on the basis of yesterday’s result.
The African nation, who were sent in to bat by Bermuda, had a feast on the lush Oval outfield against their opponents who were only playing their second official ICC-sanctioned one-dayer.
In their allotted 50 overs, Zimbabwe raced to 338 for seven wickets with “Man of the Match” Brendan Taylor plundering 98 off 75 balls with 10 fours.
Opener Vusi Sibanda hit 78 off 71 balls with eight fours and two sixes and captain Terrence Duffin notched 60 off 55 with six boundaries. Bermuda, to their credit, managed to bat out their 50 overs, reaching 144 for seven in response, with a defiant 62 from Irving Romaine and 33 from opener Treadwell Gibbons.
Pacers Blessing Mahwire and Anthony Ireland grabbed two wickets each for Zimbabwe.
