TTMA, govt explore new US trade options
The mission arrived in Trinidad and Tobago to attend the TT Manufacturers Association’s 2006 Trade and Investment Convention, which opened at the Centre of Excellence in Macoya on Wednesday.
Local manufacturers have also expressed an interest in exporting their goods to South Florida, said the statement.
In a statement, Gift said the seven-member delegation was told about the significant levels of trade currently taking place between Trinidad and Tobago and the US. TT-US trade, he said, spanned several business sectors, but the greatest area of emphasis is in the energy sector with this country providing over 70 percent of the US LNG requirements.
Gift added that the delegation was also informed that TT’s investment climate was “hospitable.” and the time was ripe for South Florida businesses to seek out opportunities in TT.
In a subsequent statement, Miami-Dade county commissioner Natacha Seijas agreed with Gift, saying that TT’s investment profile was indeed strong and her delegation was confident that it could further cement the ties that exist between the two countries.
Seijas also suggested that the option of twinning Port-of-Spain with Miami be explored as this could be mutually beneficial to both parties.
