Caledonia Clippers beat NFM

Actoin was in the Men’s First Division of the Supligen North Zone Basketball League at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo on Sunday evening.

Trailing 33-28 at half-time, Clippers, sporting former national junior centre-court specialist Miguel Williams, helped his team stay close to NFM with his defensive ability and rebounding strength.

However NFM led the third quarter 52-46, but in the final session, Williams completed five of eight block-shots which limited NFM to just four pints in the quarter as his team went on a 10-2 run to distance themselves from their opponents.

In the end, Simon Moreno top-scored with 15 points, Kerwin Lares supported with 10 and Williams contributed eight. For NFM, team captain Kerry Westfield led all scorers with 16 points.

In the first match, Defence Forec defeated Trailblazers 138-49 in a women’s contest.

For the winners Rhonda John Davis helped herself to 35 points, Tricia Liverpool scored a career-best 25 and Nacatty Hazzard added 14. For Trailblazers JoeLisa Cooper was her team’s only player in double-digits with 33 points.

The zone’s 17th season started on April 30, with 17 clubs with competition in the Men’s First and Second Divisions and amnong the Women.

Matches are played on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
