Don’t overlook Royal Miss in ‘Colt’ Durant

ROYAL MISS looked primed for her challenge for the Eric “Colt” Durant Memorial Turf Handicap. The Kenneth de Silva jr-trained mare was very lively in a 400 metres gallop which was timed in a good 24.34 seconds on the main track at Santa Rosa yesterday morning.
By Formal Gold/Her Majesty, the five year-old promises to take a hand in the finish after her third place in the Starter Allowance race over 1750 metres on Saturday last.
Jacobite and Bold Mover, both from the Glenn Mendez stables who hold the engagement in the feature Bookmakers Association Guineas Stakes, galloped together over 800 metres and returned a handy time of 52.57 seconds for the trip.
But another Guineas entrant Feelikemakinluv was out-stepped by Mr Shankar over 600 metres from the boxes, clocked in 36.80 seconds.
The clockers at Santa Rosa gave Feelikemakinluv a time of 38.00 seconds. Danze Royal was one of the stars of the morning, completing a 600 metres gallop in a very good 36.41 seconds and is one to be noted.
Another looking in good fettle was Fresh Wings who looked very keen in a 600 metres spin in 40.69 seconds.
Sunsplash was also very keen in covering 600 metres in 40.66 seconds and looked very easy at the end. Meanwhile, Jamaican rider Wesley Henry, young Barbados jockey Juan Crawford and apprentice Christopher Husbands and Navin Mangalee who has been riding in the United States, are to be in the saddle on the big Indian Arrival Day card.
And Trinidadian Brian Harding who last year won the Jamaica jockeys championship will be returning home to ride on the day also and will be astride Windjammer in the feature.
