Focus On Central: Bajnath Sports holds a rich history
The original owner of the store, Ramlal Bajnath, decided more than 50 years ago, to open this business in Chaguanas. His reasons for opening this type of business, besides his love for sports, were the many factories located close to the borough and the many employees from those factories that kept the business thriving.
Ramlal Bajnath was not only a vibrant social worker who advocated several commercial changes along the Chaguanas Main Road, but he was also quite a sportsman.
Rajendra Bajnath, who is now assisted by his son Sudhir Bajnath, said, “My father was a principal officer in the Magistracy Court and served as a Justice of the Peace in County Caroni for almost 20 years. He was jointly responsible for the establishment of the Family Planning Association in Chaguanas and was the president of the Wes Hall Cricket League and also the Central Football League.”
Besides being the secretary of one of the biggest cricket leagues in Central (the Gray Nicolls Cricket League formerly Sunbridge) for 40 years, Ramlal Bajnath was appointed by the government as a member of the Executive body of the Trinidad Cricket Board of Control.
His achievements do not end here. Ramlal was also an executive member of the TT Football Association and was involved in many other sporting and commercial organisations in the country.
As a result of all this experience in the sporting arena, Ramlal Bajnath decided to open a sporting goods store. Presently, items for cricket, fishing, football, badminton, lawn tennis, table tennis, pool, billiards and boxing are all available at the popular store.
