Sat Maharaj tells PM:

Secretary General of the Maha Sabha, Satnarayan Maharaj is calling on Prime Minister Patrick Manning to tackle the renaming of the national award, the Trinity Cross as a matter of urgency.

Maharaj made this statement following the court’s ruling in agreement with the submission made by Maha Sabha and the Islamic Relief Centre.

Yesterday the High Court ruled that the national Award discriminates against the Hindus and Muslims in this country. Maharaj said that the Maha Sabha is going to pursue this matter until justice prevails.

The argument by the Maha Sabha and the Islamic Relief Centre is that the symbol of the National Award of the Trinity Cross represents Christians only.

Maharaj said that this is not the first trip to court for the Maha Sabha as far as discrimination is concerned.

“We had to take the Government to court regarding the granting of radio licences. And this goes to show that if these extreme measures are not taken then the people are left to suffer by the hands of the Government,” he said.
