‘Wizard of Strings’ returns to TT
Lewis tantalised with his superlative technical wizardry, his dramatic presence and grand manner, his quick movements, lively eyes and his strong medium sized frame. He displayed his genius as one of the great violinist of our time.
This year Lewis returns to Trinidad as guest of the newly founded Classical Music Development Foundation of Trinidad and Tobago. He will also be on stage at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s from June 23-25 in the concert “Strings with Songs 2006”, along with Dopwell and American concert pianist and Doctor of Musical Arts, Jeffery Middleton.
Last year, Trinidad’s young violinists attended the concert and were impressed by Lewis’ technique and his extreme personal magnetism, which drew attention to the significance of virtuosity as an element in part, when they met him backstage.
This year the foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, has arranged master classes for stringed musicians in both north and south Trinidad on July 1 and 2. These classes are open to players of all ability levels, and present helpful instructions on topics ranging from practice and performance skills to instrumental technique and artistic interpretations.
Lewis is the Musical Director of the Northern Aldborough Festival Chamber Orchestra and has given master classes at the Darlington International Summer School and Festival.
