Hindi Foundation honours five sporting heroes

The five were specially honoured at a Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Saturday at the Hindu Credit Union Convention Centre, Uriah Butler Highway, Freeport.

It was organised under the distinguished patronage of Their Excellencies President George Maxwell Richards and First Lady Dr Jean Ramjohn-Richards and principally to honour the sporting heroes — Daren Ganga (TT cricket capt), Ria Ramnarine (boxing champion) Denesh Ramdin (WI wicket keeper), Shivnarine Chanderpaul (former WI capt), and Ramnaresh Sarwan, who was instrumental in shaping the victory for WI against India in the 4th One Day International at the Queen’s Park Oval on Friday.

Chanka Seeterram, president of the organisation welcomed guests and thanked the large crowd for their willingness to support the event as part of the 161st Anniversary of Indian Arrival in Trinidad and Tobago.

In the audience were members of the Diplomatic Corps, and high ranking politicians, including the Leader of the United National Congress, Winston Dookeran.

Entertainment was provided by Sophia Mustapha (dance), Tricia Ramdhan (song), Petronolla Charles David (dance), Shivana Ragoonanan (pan solo), Shivanand Maharaj (song), and Narendra Maharaj (saxophone playing).
