Regional kaiso prizes

Organised by the Regional Carnival Committee of the National Carnival Commission (NCC) the calypso competition involved all the regions throughout Trinidad and Tobago.

This was the second year of the competition and according to former chairman of the Regional Carnival, Lennox Toussaint, “this competition has grown in stature over a 14-month period and is now producing a very high standard of calypso.”

NCC Commissioner Paula Atherly told the audience that she was very pleased to sit and watch children from the various regions deliver calypsos with such passion.

“What is needed now is for corporate Trinidad and Tobago to get involved, we need sponsorship for each region.”

Sheldon Nugget of San Juan walked away with the first place challenge trophy and $7,000 for his performance of “Trouble In Paradise.” He was followed by Roger Johnson who performed “Black” and third place went to last year’s winner Eric James who sang “Who Doh Hear.”

Johnson and James collected $4,000 and $2,500 respectively.

Our photographer was at the Clubhouse and captured these highlights.
