Faith healing is unlawful
It is not only very dangerous, but it is unlawful for unqualified persons to use hypnotism in public shows or gatherings such as Benny Hinn shows. This is so because it causes people to believe that they are cured when they are not. They neglect professional care — so they suffer and die.
Scientists have shown that hypnosis is a natural part of human behaviour that affects psychological, social, and physical experience. There is no magic or miracle connected with hypnotism, and the hypnotist has no special power whatsoever.
However, hypnosis involves a more active and intense mental concentration. Hypnotised people can talk, write, and walk about. They are usually fully aware of what is said and done.
Many people are first exposed to hypnotism through a magic show or film. That may tempt untrained people to try to perform hypnotism. Because of these dangers many governments have outlawed public performances of hypnotism. Some people can go into hypnosis within a few seconds or minutes. Others cannot be hypnotised easily. There are various levels of hypnosis. For example, with light hypnosis, the person becomes rested and follows simple directions easily.
Many professionals use verbal and non-verbal techniques known as indirect inductions. The subject responds to a story or a mental puzzle presented by the hypnotist. Instead, the hypnotist suggests these actions indirectly through the story or indirect order. Throughout history, various cultures and groups have used rituals and techniques that can best be described as hypnotism. Hypnotic experiences have been described by the ancient Egyptians and Greeks and in East Indian scriptures.Hypnotism was used by James Braid, a British doctor who studied suggestion and hypnosis in the mid-1800.
Braid pointed out that hypnosis was a physiological response in the subject, not the result of secret powers or miracle by God.
The French psychologist Alfred Bitnet and the Austrian doctor Sigmund Freud did similar work.
A qualified hypnotist can use hypnotism in clinical practice. It is unlawful to do so in public.
Faith healing is unlawful; it does not cure but makes people believe they are cured. They did not know the truth so they suffered and died.
