Clarke Rochard, ‘Grande in final
The heavy-scoring Kitwaroo stroked his way to 117, his fifth century of the competition from eight matches, guiding Clarke Rochard to an easy victory in a Big Four semi-final over Guayaguayare RC at PowerGen ground in Penal on Monday.
In the other Big Four semi-final played at Alescon Comet ground in Charlieville, Chaguanas, Sangre Grande Hindu, with a fine all-round performance by Stephen Sooklal, emerged victorious over Rancho Quemado Government.
Clarke Rochard will meet Sangre Grande in the Atlantic LNG Super League final at Guaracara Park, Pointe a Pierre tomorrow. The match will be preceded by the final of the Girls’ Division between Freeport Presbyterian and Cushe Government, which starts at 10 am.
At Penal, Clarke Rochard continued their heavy scoring in the competition, amassing 244 for five from their 35 overs. Captain Kitwaroo, with 16 fours, opened the innings and was dismissed in the last over. He got good support from Shane Arjoon, 39.
In reply, Guayaguayare were humbled for 88 from 21 overs, with only Akeen Hyman among the runs, with 28.
Kitwaroo, who bowls off-spin, completed another fantastic match with three for 18 to earn his sixth “Man-of-the-Match” award. Dennis Nandlal ended with four for 30. At Charlieville, Sangre Grande totalled a competitive 195 all out from 31.5 overs, with the prolific Sooklal run out for 70.
Other meaningful contributions came from Brandon Ramdial, 27, Randy Ramlogan, 15, and Marshall Enau, 12. Andre Henry was the best bowler for Rancho Quemado, with 4 for 32.
Rancho Quemado were bowled out for 121 in 25.3 overs, with only Chris Moore showing any resistance, with 38.
Sooklal demonstrated his all-round ability, taking two for 17 to win the “Man-of-the-Match” award.
Shaquille Katwaroo was the best bowler for Sangre Grande with 4 for 20. Randy Ramlogan, Daniel La Fon and Brandon Bharath chipped in with a wicket apiece.
