Commission of Inquiry for Govt projects

It would be interesting to find out the status of all government’s projects regarding the approvals obtained and what level of planning went into them. We are seeing widespread residential developments, massive buildings in our capital and hectares of land being cleared for industrial use.

It would be interesting to know why no work has been done on the National Physical Development Plan for the country since 1984? This is in accordance with Act 35:01, the Laws of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. Then why so much work, and money, is going into Vision 2020?

Why is the Minister of Planning and Development saying they are going to tear down illegal “cell” towers where an approved policy does not exist?

Why do countless, illegal buildings and structures, by both private and public, still continue to exist.

Why is the Minister of Housing stating that the East Port-of-Spain Project will be in accordance with the laws regarding the planning framework?

The same Minister, when in the Ministry of Planning and Development who oversaw the works of Udecott, allowed all the residential developments, in the so-called “marginal seats”, to start without applications being submitted to the Town and Country Planning Division.

In closing, why are schoolchildren still negotiating with cars to walk to school? Why are there so many squatter sites?

These areas have no roads, water, drainage etc. These areas are breeding the criminal activity. The innocent children who are born into these areas will become subject to the dreadful ills.
