Donald, 87, marries Rosalra, 68

For Johnson, marriage to Dyer was the perfect 87th birthday gift. This is his third time saying “I Do’ while this was Dyer’s second trip to the altar of marriage. In a simple ceremony at Blackwell Trace in Moruga, Johnson and Dyer exchanged wedding vows in the presence of close friends and relatives.

Three months ago, Johnson took his time as he carefully went down on one knee before popping the question to Dyer, who immediately accepted. “I’m in love again and need someone to take care of me. I need a companion. Apart from this, I refuse to live an adulterous life,” Johnson told Newsday after the marriage ceremony.

A blushing Dyer said she was firm in her belief that marriage is a gift from God. “It’s also a healthy thing,” Dyer said.

But never in her wildest dreams, did she believe she would ever wear a wedding gown especially after her husband passed away two years ago.

The wedding ceremony was held at Johnson’s home and was officiated by pastor Isaiah Blackwell of the Mt Hermen Baptist Church in Moruga.

A robust looking Johnson wore a blue three-piece suit while the bride was decked off in white.

Dyer is a mother of 16 and some of her daughters attended the wedding. Johnson said he is a father of seven. Pastor Blackwell, in addressing the ceremony, wondered aloud what advice he could given the couple since their previous marriages had a good history.

Johnson’s eldest daughter Joycelyn Saunders, 54, told Newsday the couple had the blessing of both families. After the ceremony, the newly-weds cut a large blue and white heart-shaped cake. They then kissed and were applauded by everyone.
