PICADILLY STUDENT wins warriors quiz
The lucky winner was not present however at the draw and prize giving ceremony which took place at the Heritage Library Division of the National Library in Port of Spain. Careem Spencer, a Standard Four student of the school accepted the prize on Cupid’s behalf from Primnath Gooptar, a representative of the Ministry of Education.
The Acting Executive Director of NALIS, Annette Wallace said that the competition began on May 9, 2006 at all libraries throughout Trinidad and Tobago and was open to all students of the nation’s primary schools. Entrants were given reading assignments at each library which were based on the lives and achievements of the Soca Warriors and were subsequently quizzed on the information. Those who answered three or more questions were eligible to enter the next round of the competition. The names of those who answered the most questions correctly in the quiz were placed in the box to draw for the final winner while consolation prizes of Soca Warriors memorabilia were given to students who did not make it to the final stage.
Wallace was impressed at the high percentage of boys who entered the competition as it was a sign that they took an interest in reading and expressed hope that more competitions of the same nature will be organised in the future.
