Kidnappers release schoolboy
It was not known whether the family paid the $250,000 ransom demanded for the boy’s release.
Persad, a pupil of the ASJA Primary School, was found by a passerby at about 10 pm Friday night in St Augustine, police said.
When Sunday News-day visited his home at St Julien Village, Princes Town, a relative gave the “thumbs up sign” when asked how Persad was doing.
The Standard Four pupil was kidnapped at about 4.30 pm outside his school.
Persad was walking along Naparima Mayaro Road with his cousin and other schoolmates when he was lured into a car by a stranger who claimed he was sent by one of Persad’s relatives to pick him up after school.
The suspects, a 25-year-old man of Lothians Road, Princes Town and a 28-year-old man of Indian Walk, were subsequently released.
Investigations are continuing.
