Lady Dorothy now Baptist Archbishop

Yesterday’s ceremony, with Reverend Barbara Gray-Burke as chief celebrant, was hosted before a packed congregation at the Holy Faith Spiritual Baptist Tabernacle in La Horquetta.

The church was decorated with flowers and candles and the majority of the female worshippers were clad in either blue or white dresses. A small group opted to wear red, signifying that even the church could not escape the football frenzy.

Hercules, wearing a white gown, was led into the church as the small group formed the procession, and was later seated facing the podium. In taking her oath, she promised to deny all worldliness, live in love and peace with her fellow men and to be faithful in her duties as archbishop “by the help of God.”

The service was interspersed with songs of praise, worship and bell ringing, causing the worshippers to dance. Even the children, who were seated outside the building, sang, clapped and danced to hypnotic music. After she was anointed by Reverend Burke, Hercules was led out of the church building, and returned shortly after to be robed and crowned.

The ceremony culminated with a communion service and a luncheon for everyone in attendance.
