Latin dance teachers impress
This fact came to light recently with the announcement of results of examinations conducted by an expert examiner of the International Dance Teachers Association of Great Britain (IDTA).
The IDTA was invited by the Professional and Amateur Dance Association of Trinidad and Tobago (PADATT) to conduct the professional examination for ballroom dance teachers, and social dance award tests and bronze, silver, and gold medal tests for amateur dancers in this country.
A total of 427 tests were done with four professional examinations for the Associate Degree in the ballroom branch. The IDTA sent Lynn Armsby — Fellow and examiner to conduct the sessions.
According to the local dance association, a 100 percent success rate by all candidates was achieved. The youngest candidates, six girls came from the form one class of Belmont Junior Secondary School. The following are the dance classes whose students were tested and their instructors. Central Dance Class — Carl Edwards; Dance Ensemble (Tobago) — Louis Charles and Ken Wilson; Dance Partners and Company — Ken Wilson and Grace John; Exclusive Ballroom Dance Class — Ronald Williams; Footlight Dance Class — Marcia Gill; Marima Ballroom Dance School - Hudson Grazette; Modern Ballroom Dance Class — Joyce and Jaime Fernandes and Rhythmic Dance Class — Dexter McKay.
The examiner and examination Committee have nominated Lois Roberts of Tobago for the IDTA John Dilworth Scholarship Award, as her scores in the Associate Degree in Ballroom dance were all highly commended.
Presentation of medals and certificates by the IDTA will take place next month .
