Prez, First Lady visit Soca warriors

Richards, who is the patron of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) is a keen football fan and is here to lend morale support.

Yesterday, Their Excellencies were escorted by a German Police convoy to Rotenburg where they visited members of the Trinidad and Tobago football team staying at the posh five-star Landhaus Wachtelhof Hotel.

The players had earlier completed their training at the nearby Sports Platz Ground “In the Ahe” and were getting ready for an early morning flight by Lufthansa today to Nuremberg, southeast Germany.

Tomorrow, the Soca Warriors play England in an important Group ‘B’ match which has stirred up tremendous interest here as a David versus Goliath match-up with thousands of fans journeying south for the encounter.

The Trinidad and Tobago footballers will be no doubt buoyed by the presence of President Richards and his charming wife when they take the field tomorrow. The presence of the President and the First Lady has previously bode well for the national team as they were present in Bahrain last November when the Caribbean footballers qualified for the World Cup Finals. Also visiting the team yesterday was Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Roger Boynes who travelled to the Sports Platz Ground to wish them success in their upcoming match.

Also yesterday, past England players clashed with their Trinidad and Tobago counterparts in a fete match in Unterstedt in Rotenburg.

Also expected to make an appearance there were soca artiste Iwer George and Chris Garcia.
