All politicians have a past

In recent times the Dookeran faction has been stridently condemning the so-called betrayers of the party in 2001 which of course includes me. I find this charge tiresome and self-serving coming from people who were not involved in the founding of the UNC, have no idea how it emerged as the Government in 1995 and absolutely no knowledge of what actually transpired in the internal convulsions in the party and Government in 2001.

Thus we have the spectacle of some Johnnys come-lately speaking about the UNC party with absolute authority and new found loyalty and enthusiasm. It is a convenient band wagon. They give the impression that they have a monopoly over integrity, honesty and commitment and are the sole custodians of intellect, vision, knowledge and competence. Their concept of unity and reconciliation is rather selective. Some must be included and others excluded. The old must summarily be eliminated and the new undiscriminatingly embraced

I may mention that everyone engaged in public life has a past and a history and this includes holier-than-thou Winston Dookeran. And if anyone desires a discourse on party political history from 1981 to the present I am prepared to provide it.
