Gate falls on female guard

Reports revealed that Mala Jagroo and her cousin Feroze Baksh were on duty at the school for Maintenance, Training and Security (MTS), when they were visited by a senior security officer. At about 8.50 am, while Jagroo was about to close the sliding gate, it came crashing down on her.

Baksh who witnessed the freak accident, alerted a passerby and together they were able to lift the heavy iron gate which had pinned Jagroo.

Jagroo was taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital where doctors treated her for a broken hip and collar bone. She regained consciousness shortly after 3 pm yesterday and was transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.

MTS officials visited the scene yesterday and assured Jagroo’s relatives that all attempts will be made to ensure that she is adequately compensated.

However, Jagroo’s relatives said they intend to seek legal advice in the matter as the victim was seriously injured while on duty.

They said she could have been killed and believe the people who installed the gate need to provide some answers as to why the gate fell.
