Salandy gets $10,000 in boxing gear

At a news briefing at the Commission’s head office at Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain, acting project manager Wouldron Louison presented Salandy with the boxing gear which comprised gloves, head-sets and a punching bag.

Boxing promoter and match-maker Boxu Potts has been influential in arranging the sponsorship deal for the talented Salandy, since taking over as her manager two weeks ago.

He told the media yesterday, he was interested in the development of the boxer as an athlete and individual.

Potts hinted at a series of international fights he has lined up for Salandy as part of her development process.

Only a week ago, Salandy publicly severed ties with her previous management team, and indicated that Potts was her new manager, with a team comprising Kim “ Bonecrusher” Quashie, attorney William Charles and Ronald Greene.

Salandy gave as her reason , the previous management only being able to get just two fights for her in four years.

Curtis Joseph accused Salandy of breach of contract, but this was dismissed by Potts.

Potts said, however, he is more concerned with a contract Joseph may have signed with another trainer in the United States.

“The contract Joseph signed with a US coach may make the situation a little bit difficult because it could lead to a court matter,” Potts said.

But Potts is not deterred, however, and said his greater concern is what is best for Salandy.
