Magistrate warns Power 102

Magistrate Halcyon Yorke-Young, presiding in the Port-of-Spain Third Magistrates’ Court, made the order after attorney for the Authority, Sean Cazabon complained.

Cazabon said that after the last adjournment on May 23, there was discussion on the matter on Power 102. He said this was not a news item, but discussions on the merits of the case before the court.

“This is sub judice, a two-hour programme was held. I am asking that the court warns the defendant from discussing the matter while the case is still pending.”

When asked by the magistrate about the matter, Brian Knight, operations manager at the station, said he was aware about the matter, but was unaware of the facts.

The magistrate then ordered that until the case is determined, there shall be no discussions on air about the case.

The Telecommunications Authority filed two charges against Power 102. It is alleged that on March 14 and April 4 this year, Radio Vision Limited did operate a radio communication service at 88-90 Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain, without a licence granted by the authority.
