Police Headquarters killing

CORPORAL Anthony Craig said on Wednesday the entire Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) was looking for the Nath brothers when they were kidnapped last year.

Although he was based at the AKS’ Couva offices, Craig said he was working on the kidnapping of the Nath brothers. He could not say if Constables Carlos Guerra and Sheldon Narine were working on that case.

Craig, who has been working at the AKS for the past four years, said that about 1 am on August 12, 2005, he was at the AKS offices in Port-of-Spain where he had a conversation with Corporal Edwards who pointed to a mini Uzi on the ground.

Craig said he took possession of the weapon and kept it safe. He observed spent shells and a magazine and substance resembling blood. He said he cleared the weapon, took out a live round of ammunition from the chamber and handed them over to Cpl Edwards.

Craig gave his evidence in the inquest touching the death of PC Guerra who was shot at Police Headquarters and who later died at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. The inquest is being heard before Coroner Sherman Mc Nicolls in the Port-of-Spain Eighth Magistrates’ Court. Hearing resumes on June 27.
