Waterloo students get gift footballs
The sports goods merchant of Southern Main Road, Couva, and Chaguanas, has decided to donate footballs to every child in selected primary schools in the Couva district as part of an initiative to motivate youngsters to play the game, while the world is in the grip of football fever with the World Cup in full swing.
Ramsingh’s Sports World CEO Nal Ramsingh said, he is fully aware of the trauma the Waterloo Hindu School have been experiencing following the death of ex-student Sean Luke.
He said he was more than pleased to join with others in the healing process through the game of football which is on everybody’s lips since Trinidad and Tobago qualified among 32 countries for the World Cup in Germany.
And school principal Nanram Maharaj told an SEA graduation ceremony yesterday of the achievements of the school over the past year, as a means of motivating pupils to strive for excellence.
He listed among the school’s successes their reaching the semi-finals of the mental marathon; finalist in the Venture Credit Union art and craft competition; winners of the recitation competition in the Sugar and Energy Festival; performed splendidly in the netball and agri-science competition; copped 23 medals in the Maha Sabha Athletic Games, and gave a good account at the Baal Vikaas competition organised by the Maha Sabha School Board of Management. Ramsingh congratulated the school on their overall successes to date and said he looked forward with great anticipation “to all of the 179 pupils getting involved in football as another form of physical education, and moreso, to help pupils to get over the Sean Luke agony of the past few months.”
He reminded the staff and pupils that the mission that the school is — “We will collaborate with all stakeholders to provide our students with the knowledge, skills, and values that will make them responsible citizens, and which will be done in a safe and caring environment, and for which we will all work together to foster dignity, respect and excellence.”
Ramsingh said: “Let us use football on this occasion to lift our sights to a higher level.”
