Shri Murugan Foundation praised
He called on the devotees to do prayer to the deity so that there can be peace in the country and the world at large.
Sapta was at the time addressing a religious gathering at the SMF headquarters, Victoria Street, Arouca, recently. He noted also that ‘Murugan’ in the Tamil language denotes that the deity possessed beauty, everlasting youth and godliness.
President of the foundation Dirren Ponambalam said that the SMF had been conducting regular service to encourage the youths and adults from the Arouca area to do devotion as part of the purification process of the society today.
In introducing the deity to people in the temple Ponambalam said that Lord Murugan appeared from the flames that came out of the third eye of Lord Shiva. He was then embraced and fed with the milk of wisdom by his mother Parvatie.
Lord Murugan is the God of Nature, directs nature, thereby safeguarding all living creatures in it.
He was also appointed as the chief commander of war from his father (Lord Shiva). It is believed that Lord Murugan has the power to cure incurable diseases and the sick, and gives children to barren parents, makes you strong in mind and body and gives you inner peace within yourself.
The prayers at the temple commemorated the bestowing of the holy ‘vel’ which Shri Murugan holds in his hand, and which was given to him by his mother to destroy the demons, Tarakasura, Surapudma, Simhamukha, and Ajamuskihere.
Lord Murugan is worshipped in Singapore, Malaysia, India, Mauritius, South Africa and by some Hindus in England.
Devotees connected to the local SMF temple say that hundreds of people have found the answer to their prayers by doing devotion to Lord Murugan
The SMF believes that while devotion to Lord Murugan’s father, Lord Shiva, his brother Lord Ganesh and his mother Goddess Parvatie are popular in TT people should also recognise the power of Lord Murugan.
The foundation members agree that it is important that people learn about this great lord, and that he should always be included in all prayers as he has a lot to offer mankind.
They believe that anyone who sincerely worships Lord Murugan is granted all their wishes, and their prayers are answered by simply chanting the mantra ‘Om Saravana Bhavaya Namah’ — 108 times. Ponambalam ended by saying everyone can pray to Lord Murugan in their own language to obtain his grace.
