Lekh Raj romps home in Starter Allowance

A winner on the Labour Day, Monday last, over 1600 metres on the turf, Bobby Persad’s American-bred son of Demidoff/Runaway Queen was kept just off the early fractions produced by locally-bred Fun Time who blew up 800 metres out.

Honor Bound was in front with 600 metres to run, but was passed briefly by Movietowne Magic.

All this time, jockey Ricardo Jadoo gradually took Lekh Raj into a challenging position and when he pounced 200 metres out the second, Movietowne Magic had no response and he went on to win by 2 1/4 lengths. Pre-race favourite Carib Time was in mid-division but failed to issue a real challenge.

The Restricted Handicap over 17850 metres, sub-feature on the day was also easily won by Jamaican-bred Super Grey.

This grey gelding owned in Barbados by Elias Haloute and trained by Douglas Bennett, took up the running 300 metres out and strode away to win by 3 3/4 lengths over Naturelly Classy who set off to make it all.

The day was a good one for both jockey Jadoo (R) who landed three winners and owner-trainer Persad who also saddled three winners.

Also having a fine day in the saddle was veteran rider Rajpaul Rajkuimar who was astride two winners.

Dancing Tan Tan was a surprise winner of the day’s second race to reward backers with $31.10 and $8.90 on the tote, aslso giving apprentice Stanley Chadee his first career winning ride. And Wild About Becca scored a mild surprise victory in the race for imported three-year-olds over 1350 metres to return $17.83 and $7.20 on the tote.

Next day’s racing is scheduled for Saturday.
