Larry R Felix, the Trinidad–born director of the US’ Bureau of Engraving and Printing is set to be honoured by the City Tech Alumni Association next week with the “Alum of the Year” award.
Felix is a 1980 graduate of City Tech’s liberal arts programme who was named to the top Bureau of Engraving and Printing post by Treasury Secretary John W Snow in January this year.
He will be honoured at the Association’s annual meeting on Wednesday June 28, from 6 pm in the College’s Faculty and Staff Lounge, Atrium 632, 300 Jay Street, at Tillary in Downtown Brooklyn.
Prior to his appointment as director, Felix served as the Bureau’s Deputy Director. Born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, Felix came to the US when he was a child and was raised in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn.
A Brooklyn Tech High school graduate, he worked at Irving Trust as a financial investigator to pay for college at City Tech. He also holds a degree from City College of New York and has done doctoral work in political economy at Columbia University.
“City Tech was a formative part of my career in that I learned how to relate to people who were very different from me,” he says. “The students came from so many different countries and cultures and were the most diverse group of people I ever saw,” he said.
