Chaguanas Lions host successful car rally
It was organised with the assistance of the Trinidad and Tobago Rally Club (TTRC).
Winner of the Novices/Experienced Category were Surendra Dhanraj and Shelly Ann Joseph; Second were Vaughn Mahabir and Dave Narinesingh with Rishi Maharaj and Navin Mungroo third.
Derrick Habil and Graciela Boodoo copped the Novices Category. Trevanta Dyanand and Videsh Maharaj were second and Selwyn and Christiana Beharry came in third.
After the official opening at 9.30 am, the first vehicle went on its way at exactly 10 am as scheduled. A total of 24 vehicles competed in either the Novice or Novex (Novice and Experienced) Categories.
Many first-time participants signed up for the Novice competition, which also incorporated a treasure hunt to make the event unforgettable. The rally started at the Woodford Lodge Club in Chaguanas and headed south towards Waterloo, Claxton Bay then east towards Longdenville, returning back to the finish at the Woodford Lodge via Charlieville.
After a keen competition and three to four hours driving, lunch and refreshments were provided for all the participants, marshals and officials.
After participants engaged themselves in a keen and fair game of all-fours while waiting for the tallying of the results.
At around 4.30 pm the second part of the official agenda started with the presentations and announcements of the winners in the various categories.
Many trophies, vouchers and hampers were available, all donated by the business community. Everyone had a lot of fun and expressed their wish to have a rally again during the coming year. This successful day was all made possible by the many sponsors, the professionalism of the Trinidad and Tobago Rally Club and hosts Chaguanas Lions Club.
