Couva man killed in crash

A COUVA resident was killed in a vehicular accident along the Rivulet Road, Brechin Castle, Couva, on Saturday night.

He was identified as Joel Pilgrim, 32, of June Street, Pt Lisas Gardens, Couva.

Reports reaching the Couva police revealed that Pilgrim collided head-on with a truck while proceeding west along the road.

Police reports stated that he attempted to overtake a vehicle driven by Rooplal Roopchand in the vicinity of the Point Lisas roundabout when he slammed into a truck pulling a 40-foot trailer.

The truck, driven by David Sahadat, of Barrackpore, sustained damage to the front left undercarriage while Pilgrim’s pick-up was a total wreck.

Robert Gormandy, of Annabelle Street , Couva, who was a passenger in Pilgrim’s pick up was rushed to the Couva Health Facility then transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital in a serious condition.

The Rivulet Road which links the highway to Port of Point Lisas has been the scene of numerous road accidents.

Couva Police are continuing investigations.
