Singer Savita first ‘Mastana’ finalist

The young woman is now the first finalist for this year’s series. Savita impressed the judges with her interpretation of Asha Bhosle’s tune “Yeh Wadah Rahah” to win $600 from AV Drilling and Workover Limited.

She is the first of 12 contestants who will be vying for big prizes in the grand final programme due to take place in November.

Keyboard player Vishal Bhim placed second, while Akash Carl who placed third also took the “People’s Choice Award.” Ravi Jagroop placed fourth.

The following semi-finalists are scheduled to perform on the next “Mastana” — Leela Latchman, Krishna Samaroo, Devanand Mandeo, Kamlesh Merai, Stephanie and Vanessa Latchman, Stanley Ramlal, Narendra Maharaj, Chanroutie Ali and Narine Singh. This programme will be taped at the Atlantic Plaza on Thursday at 5.30 pm. The popular National Flour Mills jackpot is now $2,150 and members of the audience have a chance to win this prize as well.
