Give Jack his jacket
In a statement yesterday, the chamber praised the team and coach Leo Beenhakker for their magnificent journey through the World Cup. The chamber said the Warriors exploits on and off the field made TT “the darling of the World Cup” and the awards given to the team by the Government were “well deserved and just.”
Twenty-three members of the team each received $1 million and the Chaconia gold medal, TT’s second highest honour. Captain Dwight Yorke received $1.25 million, the Chaconia gold and was named a TT ambassador for sport. Beenhakker received the Chaconia gold and $1 million in cash.
The chamber said it was unfortunate that Warner was not given an award at last Saturday’s rally for the Warriors and urged Government to reconsider this because Warner was “the most instrumental of us even appearing on the world stage of football.”
