Teenager Merry tops golf trials

Merry is in a five-man team picked by the TT Golf Association for the 2006 Caribbean Amateur Golf Championships (CAGC) at the Caymanas Golf and Country Club just outside Kingston from July 29 to August 6.

Mitchum Jasper finished second to Merry in the trials and the pair will be joined by Shane Costelloe, Wayne Baptiste and veteran Carlos Baynes in the TT team for the Caribbean championship.

Martine De Gannes secured her spot on the ladies team when she won that category in the trials.

Last year, Trinidad and Tobago finished second in the overall standings at the CAGC in St Kitts.

Although TT won the Hoerman Cup, Puerto Rico swept all the other categories to finish with 167.5 points, 11 ahead of TT (156.5), with The Bahamas (114) taking third.
