Maybe we should be all mixed race

Ms Lovelace claims that “douglarisation is working against us” while Ms Sahadeo seeks to defend a father forbidding his daughter to marry outside of her race. The question that so burns within me is what does all this help to accomplish? May I remind you, together we aspire, together we achieve. Are we so primitive that when we look in a mirror all we see is “I am Black” or “I am Indian?” Are we so compelled to define ourselves by the colour of our skin and not our individual personalities and capabilities?

Is this why when we look at others the first thing we see is colour instead of being happy for your “hero” Brent Sancho, Ms Lovelace, and the fact that he has found love.

The only thing you can focus on is race. Ms Sahadeo instead of being concerned that a daughter is now limited as to whom she can fall in love with, you seek to define the term dougla? What half of the breed were you inferring to be a bastard? Do these two halves not make a whole person?

Maybe things would be better if we were all dougla. People might vote according to who is the best candidate, everyone would receive the same treatment, and there would be no barrier between us. Until we as a people are able to look at all of our brothers and sisters as equals, regardless of their shade of brown we will reach nowhere. It is my wish that one day every creed and race will find an equal place, may God truly bless our nation.
