Ramesh backs Dookeran no-confidence vote

Accusing Dookeran of running a parallel UNC, Maharaj said the membership of the party is entitled to put pressure on the national excutive, for Dookeran to face the membership. The time has arrived, he said, for the UNC national assembly to determine whether the current political leader could lead the party into the next general elections.

Maharaj chastised Dookeran for using the UNC’s emblem and name to run his parallel UNC. Asked if he agreed with the executive’s decision on Wednesday to move the vote of no confidence in Dookeran, Maharaj said it was evident from the membership, that the political leader was incapable of leading the party into the next general elections. Saying he was duty-bound to comment on the infighting in the UNC, as he is a member, Maharaj said he was of the firm view that the party’s membership “must make very important decisions in the next few months, if it wants to become the next Government.”
