India’s swami praises TT pundits

India’s swami, Brahmadeo Vaireejy gave high praises to local pundits.

“The yogis from India are always deep in meditation and devotion but the pundits in this country are not only practicing Sanatan Dharma (Hindu religion) but are also preaching in English language. By doing this they are attracting a lot of young people to the religious way of life. They must be highly commended for this,” he said. The swami was at the time addressing a large congregation of worshippers at the Caratal Hindu Mandir in Claxton Bay.

He praised the officiating pundit Abhedinand Persad Sharma for his discourse saying that Sharma’s way of conveying the profound messages from the Maha Bharat and the Bhagvad Gita is excellent. The Swami is in TT for six weeks. During this time he will be visiting various temples doing workshops and conducting lectures.

Sharma read from the Maha Bharat where several soldiers were called upon to aim at the eye of a bird and shoot. He told the gathering that while many of the soldiers looked at the bird and the surroundings, Arjuna saw only the eye of the bird and he was able to shoot at his target.

“There is a great lesson to be learnt from this. We must not get caught up in the things that are going on around us but instead we must concentrate on our target, our goals and give it our full attention. Only then we can accomplish any goal,” he urged. He gave a demonstration of a car on the road. He told the audience, whenever a car goes off the road it ends up in a terrible position. “This is why when we go off course in life we end up in a terrible position as well,” he said.

The mandir hosted a “four-night” yagya (devotional service) in memory of the late Sandrie Parsan and Simon Gopual. It was spearheaded by Girlie Gopaul who is the daughter of Sandrie and the wife of Simon. Girlie joined with members of the temple to do devotion for the her mother who passed away 12 years ago and her husband who died one year ago.

She joined with her seven brothers including Kemraj, Ramsundar, Ramdial, Gopaul, Narine, Radeo and Ricky in offering flowers and arti (waving of the lighted deya) to the murtis (Hindu gods) on this day.

The yagya was carried live on radio Shakti 97.5 FM.
