Brewer plants poui

Brewer’s comments came during a tree planting ceremony at King George V Park when he planted a poui tree, in a symbolic gesture of the company’s effort to preserve the environment.

“Digicel has always been an environmentally conscious company, it recognises the importance of ensuring that our surroundings are well looked after,” Brewer said.

“It is evident that the protection of the environment, as well as disaster management and mitigation, remain central to the region’s efforts where achieving sustainable development goals are concerned.” Digicel has contributed significantly in the area of regional disaster management, especially in the re-building of Jamaica and Grenada after Hurricane Ivan in 2005. In Grenada alone Digicel committed $6 million to school repair programmes. Brewer said, “In Trinidad and Tobago Digicel stands ready to assist wherever possible.”

Brewer noted that a great deal of work is being done in Trinidad and Tobago by both the Government and the private sector to ensure that the environment is protected; a clear indication he says that “society is becoming more and more conscious of the importance of looking after one’s surroundings.” “We are planting a tree which will serve as a reminder that Digicel’s roots are firmly established in Trinidad and Tobago and in the region. We are truly here to stay,” he said.
