Miss Elite to empower young women

Organisers Kay Apparicio and Cherry-Ann Donald defined “elite” as the most powerful, most gifted members of a group and therefore there can be no more than a handful. With this in mind, by means of the pageant, the organisers aspire to empower women between the ages of 16 to 25 and uplift the community of Bourg Mulatresse.

The winner will go on to the Miss Teen, Miss Elegance or Miss World competitions. The delegates are: 18-year-old Andrea Bradshaw representing Cunupia; Daniella Edwards, 17, San Juan; Darcelle Bradshaw, 17, Santa Cruz Old Road; 15-year-old Tinesha Joseph, Mount Hope; Anika George, 22, lower Santa Cruz; and Shivonne Small, 16, Laventille Road, Febeau Village.

Most of the delegates recently sat their CXC exams and are awaiting results. Anika George, however, works at WASA and is pursuing a degree in Business Management at COSTATT.

The contestants decided to seize the opportunity to be part of the Miss Elite pageant in order to experience the pageant environment and gain life experiences.

They all hope to challenge themselves through the event, as well as meet new people and gain new friends. They have already benefited from pageant life for they have been taught to express themselves in a competent manner, to walk in “heels” and apply make-up. They have also learnt to be more confident, to have proper posture while sitting and standing.

Yesterday the contestants took part in a fashion show at the Bourg Mulatresse Immaculate Church at 2 pm. They are scheduled to make an appearance on Synergy TV today at 8 pm.
