August 10, D-Day for Dookeran

In revealing this at the party’s weekly Monday night forum held this week at the Barrackpore Regional Complex, UNC deputy political leader Wade Mark said the national executive was doing all within its power to “heal” its differences.

Noting the party has given a specific timeline for the healing process to be accomplished, Mark told supporters the party is hoping good sense would prevail. The UNC executive last week moved a motion of no-confidence in Dookeran. At that meeting, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissesar announced that the rank and file of the party would decide whether Dookeran should be dismissed as political leader.

In the meantime, Senators Sadiq Baksh and Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan were axed from the Senate and replaced by Raziah Ahmed and Dr Shastri Moonan.

“We have to put a timeline to settle our differences and hope good sense would prevail. August 13 is judgement day. And you will have to make a decision whether you want Dookeran to lead you into the elections or whether you don’t want him.”
