Mocking pretenders attack OSHA

Workers are expecting their employers and the union to take the lead. The Government for all its shortcomings has offered a framework, but employers cannot continue to make the Government their fall guy. The comments by the TTMA are tantamount to saying when a worker falls from a scaffolding the Government pushed him or if a maintenance worker was killed the State is to blame. When a driver swerves to avoid another vehicle and careens off the road and dies, are we expected to blame the Minister of Transport?

Workers already know the legislation will not save their lives, they need their employers to establish safety and health committees in which they can have a say in minimising the risk of workplace accidents. Employers need to be more forthcoming with the provision of appropriate personal protective equipment and they need to be trained about Health and Safety Standards for their respective processes. Trade Unions must call on employers to take the necessary steps to protect the working class on the job sites.

It seems employers should be putting their shop in order instead of trying to play politicians and attempting to pass the buck. The buck stops here. Drag your bois Mr Fiddler and stop these mocking pretenders.
