Contractor badly hurt in rooftop mishap

Roosevelt Teesedale, 43, was reportedly warded in serious condition last night at San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) suffering from major burns about the face, chest and legs.

According to police reports, the accident occurred around 7.30 am at a house at Wayne Street, where Teesedale was supervising the painting of the rooftop. The house is under renovation and its owner David Jene, was not at home.

Witnesses told Newsday Teesedale went to the rooftop to check on other workers who were painting.

He came into contact with an electricity power line which is connected to a transformer and his clothing caught fire.

His co-workers were able to throw a bucket of water on him. Fire officials said the electricity line which is connected directly to a TTEC transformer carried 33,000 volts.

Mon Repos Firemen arrived on the scene and an Emergency Health Services ambulance took the badly wounded man to Hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors said Teesedale suffered burns to 50 percent of his body. San Fernando CID officers are continuing investigations.
