Former athlete Hyland dies
After a long battle with illness Hyland succumbed on Sunday in Florida, USA.
Hyland was also a foundation member of the Hampton Athletic Club and also played a leading role in the organisation of the Hampton International Games.
He worked at the Port Authority between 1946-1970 as a long-shore man.
Hyland will be buried in Florida on July 15.
Meanwhile his son Noel has taken over as coach of the Hampton Athletic Club preparing for the 2006 season.
Hyland’s close friend Peter Ray Blood described him as the most pleasant person that he has ever known. He also played football for Melbourne in Belmont and together with Blood, were supporters of the Maple Football Club in the 1960s.
