Doldron allays stadium fears

According to National Amateur Athletic Association (NAAA) president Ken Doldron, the relayed Mondo track will be completed by today.

“All this is dependent on the weather,” Doldron emphasised.

The CAC Championships will take place at the Mucurapo venue from July 14 to 16.

“We have time to complete the track, once we don’t have bad weather,” Doldron said.

Doldron added that he expects the track to be certified by the International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) by Monday, five days ahead of the scheduled start.

“The main track is the only area where we are a little behind schedule, since the recent bad weather pushed us back,” Doldron said.

“But, in terms of the administrative aspect, everything is in place.

“The final entries (of teams) was Tuesday and we (the organisers) will have the accommodation and visas to deal with, since Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico and the Dominican Republic need visas to come into Trinidad,” he said.

With the teams due to arrive here by Wednesday, the NAAA president noted that the athletes will have a refurbished warm-up facility, which is situated on the adjacent practice field.

In all, a record number 650 athletes and officials from 31 countries will be here for the three-day competition.

The CAC Junior Championships will be the biggest track and field event ever staged in Trinidad and Tobago.
